After reading time after time about major increases in aviation insurance premiums, I was holding my breath when my broker told me it was time to renew and she'd get me a quote. To my great surprise, my premium quote was lower than last year! The quote was down by about 4% - not a huge amount, but definitely in the right direction! This is for exactly the same liability and hull coverage with no changes elsewhere in the contract. Also, there was no change in my history as far as additional ratings, etc.
Just wondering if maybe the rates have peaked and we get an economic breather for a while? It's sure contrary to the way the rest of the economy is going - I paid $135 yesterday to fill up my F-250 diesel pickup!

Depends on your age.
Well, I definitely did NOT get a year younger! LOL!

I know they're cancelling policies for those over seventy, regardless of health. I've heard, but don't know for sure, that rates are going up a lot for those over 60.
I'm 71 but in excellent health so I feel very fortunate my premium didn't increase! I have a very long, claim-free history with the same insurance company so I think that helps.

John you’re an inspiration to all of us here on the forum. I’ve often wondered how many flying years I have remaining and as long as you’re still flying so will I!
Our flying club insurance just renewed with no increase from last year so you may be right. The aviation insurance market may have peaked for now. Hopefully we can afford the gas to keep flying.
I'm not so lucky. My zero hours 601 and me with 100 hours quote was $4700. I fully expect this to go down once the phase 1 is flown off.
Wow, Doug - hopefully it'll get much better! I'm 71, 3,000+ hrs, 740 hrs in STOL 750, and pay $1698 for 65K hull and 1 million liability with $0 deductibles!
Yeah, that hurts. I'm thrilled that I managed to get a hangar but of course they require insurance. My plan is to put as many hours on the plane as possible in the first year, then shop around again next year. If my estimates are correct, insurance will be the most expensive part of flying!
John and I both own our own hangars, so that's probably a bonus in our favor.
