Hello,

I found this logo on a brand new NGK Spark plug DR9EA (see pics).

Why can't the "R" Version used in planes ?

There is nothing about in the web.

On older versions of the DR9EA this logo is not on the box ?!

What have they changed ?

Who can help with that ?

Thank you

The no aviation warning might just be a move to avoid liability?  However, in any case, be very careful of where you source your NGK plugs - apparently knock-off copies are widely distributed and sometimes the boxes will be slightly different.  Buy your plugs from a trusted source for sure!

I've addressed the "R" issue in your other post.

I believe NGK  is just the brand name of the original company that manufactured the spark plugs.  I use BR8ES in my Lycoming O-360 without any problems.  They are recommended for PMags.  Possibly the restriction graphic is more about liability than anything else..

I think you’re right about the liability aspect. Bing carburetors has on their website that if you have an aircraft with a Bing carburetor, they are not responsible for liability of any sort. I still ordered new jets from them.

I am a new Rotax owner and have no flight time yet on my 200 hour engine, but I asked the same question at both the Leading Edge and Lockwood booths at Oshkosh this year. Seems they are not allowed to recommend the NGK plugs anymore for Rotax engines. I asked the same question at the Rotax Factory tent, and all the factory reps had the same message.

The official Rotax plugs are $263 a set, so I ordered a set of NGK from Spruce that totaled $26. The new warning icon is on the box. I don't feel as though this is going to be a safety issue. I wonder if NGK has issued any statements on this?
