Zenith 601XL brake mechanism protrudes below bottom of wheel rim

Part of my brake mechanism protrudes below the lowest level of the wheel rim. That means damage could occur in a flat tire situation. It looks like a brake fluid orifice is at the lowest point on the…Continue

601xl nose wheel/rudder interaction

Started this discussion. Last reply by Don Burkholder Feb 22, 2014. 3 Replies

I find that the V inset of the nose wheel crossbar bearing surface introduces a lot of friction and interference with the rudder. Ideally, the rudder should be completely free so the pilot has…Continue

Thanks, John! After I get my alternator back on, I'd like to take a look at yours to make sure I have all the wires right. If you would, call me on my cell 594-3049 and we'll arrange a time to meet .

Hi John,

The brakes can be installed at the front or the rear. The builders manual with the photos recommend the brakes be installed at the rear.

My SLSA has the brakes attached to the front of the undercarriage, However the undercarriage looks slightly different from the kit that I am building now.

You have a good point about the brakes protruding. The brakes are at an angle either at the front of behind and I think the tire must have to be really flat before the brake contacts the surface.  I am very curious now you have mentioned it and will send some pics tomorrow, I will take a measurement of the clearance as I am very curious with this topic.
