Banquet for 2021

Fellow Builders,

The Zenith Builders Banquet will be held on Thursday, July 29, at the Elks Lodge in Oshkosh. This year's banquet will include a very special tribute and toast to Chris Heintz by Sebastien Heintz and his family.

Cocktails begin at 5:30 PM with dinner at 7:00 PM and a presentation to follow. Because this year's event will be catered by the famous Roxy in Oshkosh we need to estimate how many are coming to the event. Sebastien has set up an RSVP link you can use to…

LODA for teaching in a Zenith 750

Has anyone out there successfully navigated the Letter Of Deviation Authority (LODA) process and would they be willing to share?

gregorymillerashland@yahoo.com

If you are willing to send me your approved documents from the FAA, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Greg

Resources for instructors

What are some good books/resources that discuss the finer points of flying the Zenith 750? I am an instructor and I see a need for good instructors in this community. Instructors that can teach well the differences inherent is this type of low inertia/ high drag machine. I have yet to experiment much with power off approaches and have interest in sage advice in this area.

Pre drilled rear wing skins

the wing skins have predrilled holes on the leading edge, but the nose skin is supposed to overlap, but it has no holes in it. Any ideas how to match drill the leading edge skin?

Aero 701 engine mount

Aeromomentum engine mount doesn't fit. Anyone had trouble with the engine mount from aeromomentum fitting on the 701. I ordered and recieved it and it has several issues around the top front gear mount. everything is 20 mm too low. The side tabs hit the bottom of the front brace. No problem I can cut those but now the bars are hitting the front of the brace. to fix this I'll have to cut two relief notches for the bars to pass. Haven't contacted aero yet. it's like they have their plans or…

Setup and Drilling of Bottom Wing Skin to Wing Ribs

I finished drilling the pilot holes to attach the bottom wingskin to the the left wing.

The video documents the setup that I used so when I am ready to do the right wing, I can

duplicate the same setup.

Tool for checking rib flange straightness

While preparing to drill the bottom wing skin to the ribs, I wanted to be sure that the center line of the ribs were straight.

When doing top wing skin I had used a metal strip with holes drilled in a straightline to be able to verify straightness.

The improved version uses a 1/8" acrylic strip about 2 inches wide with a line drawn to verify the center line of the rib flange  is straight.

In addtion, two red lines were added that would give me a warning if a drilled hole…

Twiddling my thumbs

Ordered the finishing kit for my 701. They said it won't ship until late September. Building an airplane requires a lot of inspiration and motivation maintenance as it is. We've all heard of the high percentage of projects that take more than a decade or never get completed. I am dedicated and determined to my project in spite of the odds. I would like to drop a line in the old suggestion box if I could. Zenith please be more informative with your orders with regards to pricing and shipping.…

Poor performance at higher Altitudes

I fly my 701 out of a 7000' airport, L35, and have a 912 engine with high comp pistons installed to produce about 90 hp at sea level. Plane has the fixed slats installed. The plane's performance is so marginal that I can not take a passenger because the plane will not climb over 50 mph with nose abnormally high just to stay level in the air. However at lower altitude airports of 3000', performance is better and there is better flying margin and I can climb at 400 fpm solo.

The plane…
