I have 6 yrs.( 300 hrs.) on my original nose bungee. Is it time to replace? I have no sag or signs of deterioration. How often are other 601 xl owners doing a replacement?

About a month ago I was flying high with the first wing almost done and now I've not touched it for 3 weeks and feeling quite depressed about the whole endeavour. So many forum posts with people who clearly know what they are doing struggling with things - how to mate the fuse parts together, how to route a fuel line..... what chance do I have as a complete beginner and no one around me who knows more than I do?
I'm sure most everyone goes through the same, hopefully I can get…

Dynon remote magnetometer installed in upper skin directly behind aft baggage wall. Used all aluminum Huck rivets for installation to avoid errant fluxes.

working on parts for horisontal stab. Just have to make some type of brake with 6.4 mm radius to bend parts. What are most of u bending these parts with. I see when I get to firewall stiffeners I have to make a bend almost 900 mm long. Not sure if I can bend these over a peice of wood or not. What is the best way to do this without making another brake?

Our heartfelt thanks go to Randy and Tim for kindly sending their 'left-over' cleco's, wiring, instruments, clamps, breakers and other goodies to us in Ghana. Randy and Tim both built Zenith aircraft, and at the end had some parts that had some good deeds left in the packaging... They responded to the Medicine on the Move…

I am finishing the wings and I am somehow reluctant to start riveting... so for all the more advanced builders out there... a few questions:
1- I have seen many options for vented gas tanks caps... even one that includes a valve with a floating ball to allow air flow into tanks and stop vapors getting out... also some who welded tubbing... suggestions? options from spruce? I have the factory built tanks.
2- Is it possible to build inspection opening in the wings? anyone has…

I think the starting problem has been solved! I got the ECU back fron Jan with the latest updat installed. Have 4 or 5 starts with the temp in the 25-35 deg. range. It seems to fire up after a few revs, but gining how cold it was, thats not bad. WAY LOT better than before.
Now if we could just get some warm weather.

I connected via a coax balun as found on "aeroelectric.com", secured to the rudder spar. Downside of antenna in rudder is coax has to flex when rudder moves.
Aerials made from radio shack cb antenna silver brazed into drilled 1/4 stainless bolts. Total aerial length = 25" with 1" pigtails from balun. Total =26" or 1/4…

It seems to me I read somewhere that the Nose gear tube length (height) changed for the 650 vs. the 601 or at some point there was a change.
Can anyone tell me if this is true?
Thanks for your help!
FYI, after I close my LH wing up this week, I can now call my 601XL a 601XLB.
Wasnt that fun!
Glad the rebuild is over and now I am off to finishing and maybe hearing it run this fall.
Again, thanks…

I guess I haven't got the hang of this yet. These comments were meant to go with the four photos I posted today of Ed Moody's 601 XL, Papa Goose.
A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of enjoying Ed's hospitality as we were passing thru his hometown of Rayne, Louisiana. Not only did my wife and I get introduced to the local delicacies of alligator, crawdad, frog legs and hush puppies, but Ed found the time to take me up for an hour in the beautiful XL that he and his father, Eddy,…
