Received my finishing kit a couple of weeks ago.  Building a Cruzer with STOL gear.  The rims supplied in the kit are gold.  We'd prefer gloss black.  I've never worked with split rims before.

What's the best way to do that?  Powder coat or paint?  Any tricks or tips would be appreciated.

Don't see why you couldn't powder coat them - that would be the most durable.  Some worry about powder coat application temperatures affecting the aluminum, but this has been debated many times and my take is the consensus is that the temp and duration of the powder coat cure is not enough to affect the aluminum.

If you paint, you can now get epoxy 2K primer, topcoat, and clear coat paints in rattle cans that would be very durable.
