FAA Releases MOSAIC NPRM

The FAA has released the Modernization of Special Airworthiness Certification (MOSAIC) Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) for LSA aircraft. Among other things, an aircraft’s weight limit would be based on stall speed. This could allow aircraft weighing as much as 3,000 pounds to be classified as LSA. The proposal would also expand the types and usage of LSA aircraft, allowing some aerial work. Sport pilots could operate up to four seat aircraft, but would still only be allowed one…See More

Will a prop for a Viking fit the Jabiru?

Long story short, I hd settled on a Viking 130 for my 750 STOL but have decided to go with the Jabiru 3300 instead. Unfortunately I already bought a three blade 68" Whirlwind prop for the Viking. Anybody know if that's usable on the Jabiru?See More

"Good on you mate it took me 14 years to finish my 601 work over seas so can only play when I am home + I am 6ft 7  so can not fit in a 701. Hope your back is getting better and your wife is with you all the way I also live in a hanger "

Years in the making

Bought my kit in 2008 or 2009, but never built it. 11 years later, two moves, a broken back, a broken rib, four surgeries and another soon to come, we now live in an airpark and my hangar is finally going up. Of course, if I had a trophy case, it would be full of gold medals for procrastination, but we can overlook that for now. Should be building fairly soon if my medical status allows. My wife says after all we've gone through to get here, she'll kill me if I don't build this plane. So…See More

Change my model number

I wish Zenith allowed you to create your own model number on this site instead of using a drop down list. I got my 750 STOL kit before they introduced the Cruzer, which kind of met my needs and desires better than the STOL. Unfortunately there's no way to convert one to another, and I can't afford to buy another kit. I am making changes to 'Cruzer-ize' my plane, mainly not installing the leading edge slats. I may consider other things like wheel pants as well, but I haven't really decided any…See More

Bob,

It doesn't matter that you responded so late anyway, since I haven't made any progress on an autopilot for my plane. I still follow the forum on a daily basis even though I completed my plane in 2012.

I'm sorry to hear about your broken back, and glad to see you back here. I still follow the forum, and have made several changes to my plane since I finished it. I've copied several mods posted by John Austin.

I still want to do the autopilot install on my plane but that may be something I consider next spring. Just this past week there have been new posts on the autopilot. Right now I'm still waiting for a Navworx ADS-B unit which I paid for last year, and hopefully will finally get sometime near the end of September. 

I just noticed your  were Computer Systems Engineer.....I got computer training in Navy and got out just short of 10 years. Repaired computers, worked for Control Data, Cray Research, and Silicon Graphics before retiring.

Hope to see you posting now that you're back into it. Good luck on keeping the wife happy.

Now that I have my plans I can't wait to get started.  I won't be able to start any real assemely till after my house addition is complete as agreed with the boss but I do hope to start fabricating ribs and other parts and set them aside till later.  Not real excited about the fuse plans.  Very confusing.  I obviously need to spen a lot of time studying them before I start on the fuse.  I can always by a fuse kit if I have to.  I plan to price the parts I will definitely need to buy a nd compare that to the a complete fuse kit and see just how valuable the kit will be.  The wings and tail feathers look fairly straight forward.  Any chance you will be able to start on yours soon?

It was a comment about having a constant speed prop on a CH 750, which does disqualify for LSA. I miss understood the rest of your comment. Sorry.

Hi Bob, Back on Jan. 29th you posted a comment that a Experimental amateur built does not qualify for LSA operation. It's my understanding that if the aircraft fits all the parameters it can be operated as an LSA. There is an Ercoupes Cubs and Champs at local airport flying as LSA's why not E-AB's?

Bob, the aircraft flies really well with VGs. The aircraft really just mushes into the stall, the most noticeable thing is an increase in ROD. No wing drop, with or without flap.
The VGs on the lower elevator are really good. Nose can be held off to a very low speed.
