This is "The Zen".
It is a 2005 kit built CH601HD that was built by Trevor Page, and sold to me & Ray Nash in 2007. At the time Ray & I had been flying Quad City Challengers on wheels / skis / amphibian floats. We wanted a faster go further adventure aircraft that was still in the Advanced Ultra Light Aircraft (AULA) category here in Canada. It was also the aircraft that introduced me to Zenair / Zenith kit planes, the Rotax 912 series of engines, and the hopeless addiction of…

Well, I thought things were going too smoothly. Two days ago I received the anxiously awaited prop spacer and when fitting to the prop flange, it would not allow all the bolts to thread easily into the flange. A few of the bolts treaded easily through the spacer into the flange. The next bolt started to bind after a few turns were made.…

March 8, 2021 is a big day for me. I ordered a CH 750 STOL kit for pick up at Mexico, MO. I'm busy setting up the workshop in anticipation of picking up the kit and starting the build. I'm like a 5 year old kid waiting on Santa!

This is for a 1993 601 HDS, taildragger.
In the tri gear drawings, the center wing ribs (from inside to out) are at 585, 665, 770, etc. on the main spar.
The taildragger replacement drawings put the same ribs at 530, 650, 770 etc (the others are the same, only the first two ribs are different).
The issue is that 6-V-4-2 (this piece helps from the boundaries of the cabin) is riveted from the…

Nice day, so I pulled the Cruzer out of the shop for a first run.
150 hp 0-320 lyc. All ran smoothly, no precious fluids leaking.

I haven't posted in quite awhile. I am working at a very slow pace due to time constraints and perfectionism. I have lots of updated photos to show.

Recently, the trusty 912S in my 701 has been, well, not that trusty. The symptoms started subtly about a year ago, with slight difficulty starting. Used to be, you couldn't count the blades before the thing sprang to life. Now I was counting 6 or 10 seconds, and having to mess with various combinations of throttle and choke - probably because the lack of immediate start was causing flooding.
Anyway, I had an annual inspection coming up, and even though I have my repairman…

After flying my HDS for 10 and half years, decide to upgrade the instrument panel in order to relieve some COVID fatigue. Purchased an inexpensive CNC router to make the cutouts and learned to use the software to make the drawings and generate the GCODE.
Was able to clean up some wiring and remove unnecessary instruments. Still getting used…

I am trying to find information on how to properly set the flaperon position. I have recently completed a set of high strength turnbuckles to assist in the setting process. I have looked through all the documentation I have and can't find any pictures or angle information, maybe I am too OCD but I want to get this correct. I started by laying a straight edge on the top rear of the wing and adjusting to that but when I have completed the settings I don't have much flaperon movement with the…

I ordered the landing light kit for the 750 and started looking for instructions on how to install it. I found a few examples of what the final product looked like but nothing like what I needed as a VERY armature builder. Well, I decided to tackle the project and I figured I'd pass along what I did in case it might help someone else.
The first thing I found is that either I build the slat wrong or the SD slat is different than the 750 STOL. I say this because the pictures and…
