More Spar Work

This afternoon, I re-cut the spar web doublers for both wing spars and then drilled pilot holes along one side of one spar. Time and light did not permit me to finish the other side. I still need to mark rivet points for the ribs, L-angles, and the spar web doublers.

Installing the Top Cabin Window on CH750

IMG_5115_50R.jpg

I have just finished the installation of my windshield and top window on my CH750 project.   The version of canopy frame that I have - has a diagonal tube across the top of the frame, running from the front left to the rear right position.   Per the drawings and picture guides, I added the two channels to the diagonal to make a slight upwards bulge, ie to make…

Final Push to Finish

I am in the final push to finishing.  I've procrastinated way too long through the hot summer.  The only airframe parts left to fabricate are the main wing root covers that will be done once the plane is reassembled at the airport.  I am looking forward to an engine start here at home, testing the radios and getting past the trailer trip to the airport.  Paint will have to wait until post Phase I and will probably be done by another owner.  I don't fly anymore since a 5-way bypass.  An…

A Little More Rudder Work

Managed a few hours this weekend to work on the rudder. Completed the skeleton and started fitting the leading and trailing edge skins. Yeah, I know I went overboard with the Cleco's, but nothing moved!

Spar Caps - Initial

Trying to get more building time under my belt now that the weather has turned cooler. Today, I marked the drill points on the first wing spar and temporarily attached the spar caps. Great feeling! This week, I'll order a bunch of AN-470 rivets. Next weekend....lots of drilling and and some riveting.

Deadstick Landing in STOL 750

Here's a link to a deadstick landing at the dry lakebed. Sorry for the poor video, learning how to do it. It's a little steeper approach, but not by much. Probably due to propeller being stopped.

Rudder Skeleton

Today I started building my CH650B! My daughter, Delaney, and I brought the tail kit home with us from the Zenith Open Hangar Day and Gathering. We had a great time, and she got to fly the One Week Wonder!

I worked about 4 hours today on the rudder skeleton. I drilled holes, deburred, and clecoed the ribs to the spar and doublers. I made my first mistake too. My clamps did not hold the doublers well enough, resulting in one hole that is actually 2 holes very close together.…

Jabiru Cooling

I am just completing a cooling baffle for my 601.  This design is by Bob Gutteridge.  He is an EAA Tech Advisor who built a Jabiru aircraft with the 3300 engine.  He had continuing problems with cylinder head heating problems and designed this baffling system.  I copied his desing and adapted for the Zodiac.  I should have this finished this week and will report on my temps.  On my first flight I had cylinder head temps right near 400 degrees with the older Jabiru fiberglass system.
