Prop Pitch

My 601XL has a 69" 48 pitch currently, with a C-0200 rated at

125 HP.  At 2300RPM I am just at 100MPH, I want to be at 115MPH

at 2100RPM (RPM X Pitch X .000947 = MPH), This would call for a 69" 58 pitch prop.

What are other Flyers out there using on 125HP engines for Dia. and Pitch?

Also is 115MPH cruse acceptable and safe.

This 601xl has the wing mod.

PS: Getting 125HP out of a 0200!!, 10-1 comp pistons,…

Flying with 912iS in a CH701

One of our pilots from Brazil is transitioning to the CH701 with the 912iS.  He put a GoPro on the mount and then created with You Tube video... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ijgyJhgUic - although it is speeded up, it shows a lot of interesting hand movements in the cockpit... watch carefully as you see me in the right seat moving my hands around a lot!  Also check out the full and free movement prior to take off - as well as enjoy…

ratchet v buckle straps

I used buckle straps during skin installation on the stabilizer. I found them much easier to set up and they were half the price of ratchet straps as well. I thought I just share that in case sombody else dosen't like ratchets.

CH-701 Elevator Confusion

Plans indicate the trailing edge beveled edge on the top of the elevator pointing 15 degrees up, causing a permanent down trim.

The instructions indicate in two separate places, the beveled trailing edge should be on the bottom of the elevator creating a flat and  neutral lift trailing edge.

My question is:  which is the correct?

Safety wire/pin?

I just installed the 750's rear bracket on the horizontal stabiliser, which requires two bolts as well as rivets. There is no mention on any safety wire or pin through the nut or the tip of the bolt. Is this correct or am I missing something. I don't want to rivet on the skins and then discover that I missed it. Any advice is welcome. Regards from Ireland.

Making sure the fuel sender is sealed

Hi Builders,

I wanted to make very sure that my fuel senders were sealed before putting the tank in the wing and then filling it with fuel in the future!

The builders guide says the screws should have fiber washers under the head for sealing. These are no longer provided in the supplied VDO install kit. It sounds like a very good idea to have a fiber washer to help seal or a copper washer - like the seal washer used in banjo fuel fittings. I am also using the…

Airfoil streamline for front landing gear

Does anyone have a source for an aluminum airfoil shaped fairing that one could placed around front gear tube?

Preferably open at back so could be slipped around gear tube and then riveted shut and riveted to gear tube for stability.

Catto prop and Cummins Spinner

Dave, Catto did do a one off or us. He made two at the same time. I had one of his three blades on my RV 6 and I loved it. I knew from the start I wanted one for the Zenith. The spinner is from Allan Cummins in Australia. What a sweet combination at least that is what I think! Catto now has all the data to make them for the Zenith an UL.

Wings Start!

Started the CH 750 wing build this weekend by conducting a first pass at form molds for the nose ribs and rear ribs, The center lightning hole on the rear rib is slightly off as that was my first attempt with the fly cutter. Will get some more lumber this week and try it again next weekend.

Dorsal Fin

Trimmed and fitted forward dorsal piece to LE of horiz. stab.  For those that have done this, you know it takes a lot of small trimming and fitting.  The real artsy exercise is the aft piece which I have now completed.  It took considerably longer.  I plan on attaching these with nutplates and rivnuts instead of riveting.

CH701 nav light circuit breaker

701 builders: what trip value circuit breaker are you using to protect the nav light circuit of the Aeroflash dual (strobe, nav) light unit?  The units were supplied by Zenith as an option for my 701.  For a while during phase 1, I had a bad ground for the right wing nav light and could never tell during flight whether the light was working or not.  If I thumped the wingtip while in the hangar, the light would come on.  Aeroflash says the current draw for a 12V system should be 2 amps per…
