Anyone want to go to OshKosh with us?

HI. I will be going to OshKosh on Wed the 27th or Thurs. the 28th.  We will be taking a motorhome and have room for one more person.  You will have your own bed, and we have a quiet generator for A/C. A little about us.  We are in our early 30s and like to drink beer and let a couple swear words out here and there.  We are not all night party people just like to have fun.  We camp as close to the ultralight strip as we can.  You should be ok with swearing and drinking and have a good sense…

Performance

My 750 has an O-200 engine and I NEVER see 1000 FPM climb or 100MPH cruise or the claimed range. I would love to hear what other folks have found.

Elevator assembly

Finally got a chance to see my local sheet metal bloke, so got him to bend some pieces - the elevator spar, trim tab spar, and the trim tab itself.  He did a superb job on the trim tab - bent it up from one piece of 0.016" with 3 bends.  Note that the trim tab assembly on this 701 is based on the 750 style - full port elevator span, inset into the trailing edge.  (I believe the 701 tab is a flat plate hinged to the existing soft-riveted TE - correct me if I'm wrong!)  Anyway, as I've said on…

Cowling Fasteners

I've been looking at the Aircraft Spruce catalog and trying to figure out what parts I need for fastening my cowling closed.  I've been looking mostly at DZUS fasteners.  I'm finding it hard to figure what parts are needed from the catalog and or website.  There especially seems to be missing information when looking at the flush type DZUS fasteners regarding required parts and sizes.

Does anyone have some suggestions on what to use.  I've done flush rivetting throughout the…

Got Caught by the Shipping Process Again

When I ordered my slats/flaps and tail kit, I ordered it online, paid the deposit and sat back waiting for it to be shipped. The "confirmed" shipping date came and went so I called and was told they waiting for final payment which I thought was odd since they already had my credit card. And also how was I to know they were waiting for me to pay?

This time when I ordered the wings I made a note in the comments box online to please take final payment when ready (this was a…

Exploring NW Ontario in a CH-701

Last evening I had an amazing flight in my CH-701.  In the 1980s the provincial government had a program of applying herbicide to recently replanted conifer forests so that the young trees would not have to compete with faster growing native deciduous vegitation.  The side effect of this program was the creation of gravel runways in remote locations throughout the region.  Having found one of these abandoned strips more than…

Flying with the doors off

OK, its hot here in SC, so wen;t flying with no doors. The breeze felt good and the plane  handled well. the only adverse condition was a little wind noise being picked up by the head set mike. Now for the rest of the story, we, ( Robert my partner) and I were not planning this. It started because we were not happy with the 68" GSC wood prop in use. Although the tracking was spot on there was always a small vibration we did not like. So we ordered a new 71.5 " Kiev prop and installed. After…

Wagner HVLP Control Spray Plus Paint System

Here is my new Wagner HVLP Paint Spayer System.  Great Spray Gun - can be used with all kinds of paint such as Waterborne Epoxy Primers, and Waterborne Polyurethane etc.  There are some pretty expensive systems out there... but this was to good to pass up!   Paid $75US from Gleam Paints.  Runs off of 110V and feather light.   Princess Auto had one for $130 from China and it just could not compare to the Wagner.  I had a Wagner electric spray gun back in the 80's and it was one super…

At what stage the engine is better to be installed

Hello

I,m building a kit 750  bought it 2008 and  just finished installing the main landing gear and controls . The engine going to be installed is Rotax912, The questions are.

1- What type and  size of bolts and nuts  to fix the engine mount to the fire wall? there are 6 holes for that

2- Is it good time to install the engine now before joining the wings and tail?

 Thanks

Update as of 2 July 2011

Yesterday flew another hour in the evening. Still hot air at 1000 AGL. Temp was 85 degrees.  Was curious as to the cooling capabilities of the Rotax engine with water cooling and the oil radiator provided in the fw fwd kit.  To date noticed no problems all temps have been well within limits.  So far have 21.8 hours with no major flight glitch.  Only issues so far were the mounting spacer rubber on the gear (see blog in Matronics) - seems to be cured now with the "new design material" from…

Zeniths to Oshkosh!

(Older posts for the Zeniths to Oshkosh planning by Joe Scheibinger)

It's already July and we're just weeks from the start of AirVenture (Oshkosh)!

"Zeniths to Oshkosh" Update

It's only three weeks to EAA! For us lucky ones that live close to the Oshkosh airport, EAA for us is the entire months of July! It's fun to drive out…

750 Flying Technique

Currently I'm focusing on landing the 750 under a range of configurations and circumstances . . . and I find the process challenging and FUN. I find turning from base fo final and on down to the numbers holding 60 seems comfortable, with or without power. Without power flare is nearly nonexistent. I like to have the wheels touch just as the stick is full back. I would love to hear how others relate to flying (and especially landing) the 750. Peter

CH 650 Kit Evaluated by FAA

In a letter dated June 24, 2011, Terry Allen, manager of the FAA Production and Airworthiness Division, stated that the Evaluation Team determined that the kit will “allow an amateur builder to meet the major portion requirement of Title 14, Code of Federal Regulations part 21, Certification Procedures for Products and Parts, § 21.191(g),” known as the…

Elevator not Stabilizer

See what I mean about mistakes, meant elevator not stabilizer in both the blog and pic.  Guess I learned this time to proof before post???

Added by Tim Smart on June 26, 2011 at 6:06am — No Comments

Completed the Stabilzer

I finished the stabilizer yesterday, I ended up changing both the hinges to a 2" open because I was not happy with the rivet to edge spacing.  I made many of the parts twice and if I were paying myself minimum wage I am sure that I would be in the price range of a Bonanza.  With 99.9% of the build ahead of me can anyone say Gulfstream?

It sure is fun and I am learning from every mistake I make!
