I think most builders have at least one slow leak tire on their aircraft. On mine its the nose gear tire, it leaks down over a couple weeks while the mains have never leaked. I was thinking about putting tubes in the tires, but that adds extra cost and weight (I assume that is why tubes are not included in the kit?). A fellow builder Bob Stuart (CH701 plans only) suggested removing the valve stem and injecting (syringe) 5 - 10 cc of anti-freeze then installing the stem and inflating the…

Ok, so here is your challenge - a floating airport.
We are seriously considering taking on a disused hospital ship and converting it into a 'Health Education Vessel with Advanced First Responder Capabilities'. If successful, which is more than 50%, we would want to keep the vessel at large the majority of the time, anchored at a number of points along the thousands of kilometers of lake-coast on the largest man made lake in the world. Moving crews and supplies on and off…

Recently my wife (Mary) and I journeyed to Australia in celebration of her 50th birthday. Being long-time EAA members and homebuilders, part of our vacation planning included establishing contact with Australian homebuilders who lived in the regions we were going to visit.
We've always enjoyed meeting fellow aviation enthusiasts. Some of our most enjoyable times have been in the company of aviators who we've met at various places. From small fly-ins at places like Brodhead…

Had the opportunity on Friday to get into the air for a test of the new oil cooler.
Lots of traffic and had to spend a lot of time holding short for takeoff, oil temps remained well within limits, Left bank CHT's got a little warmer than I would like but remained within limits. managed to get about .8 hr of flight and landed to check for potential oil leaks. Found one connection that needed tightening and will check it again on the next flight. Minimum loss of oil.

Is anyone having issues with the back of the armrest sides being approx 10mm higher the the tunnel top panel when installed.
This problem has been dogging me since joining the rear and front fuselage. All other parts and pieces seem to line up just fine.
Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated.

CH-701 C-GBQX became an airplane on November 1st, 2010. I now have about 36 hours on it. Phase one ended at 25hrs and I have been enjoying giving ride to my friends.
I'm building streamlined strut covers. With my 80 hp Rotax the plane cruises about 78-80mph at 5200 rpm when solo. I'd like to get just a bit more performance out of it. That and maybe a bit better climb on hot days (if they ever get here). I'm hoping to fly it to Oshkosh this year so I need to get these…

The April 2011 issue of Kitplanes magazine has an excellent article on "budget building." Written by the former editor of EAA Sport Aviation magazine Scott Spangler and featuring Wayne Clagg and his now famous Zenith STOL CH 701 airplane, which was…

Last month, Roger, my brother Mat and I visited Buzzy Devoll of Buzzair Flight Academy located Carson City, Navada. Buzzy and his wife, Aumie, operate the full-service flight school with a nice new Zodiac CH 601 XL-B S-LSA trainer which is available for flight training, check-rides, and aircraft rental for flying in the scenic area around Lake Tahoe.…

I changed out some hoses on the ship (912 UL) and now I've got it back together... but I can't find any secrets to bleeding the coolant system other than just running it hard, then cooling it for it to suck up the recovery tank and then do it all over again...
any secrets to bleeding the coolant on a 912 UL??

While discussing aviation accidents with some co-workers I went to the NTSB website and was surprised (and saddened) to see that a 701 got damaged two weeks ago out where I live: accident report
But I was also excited because I thought that would mean there was a Zenith builder around but from the registration details it looks like the owner is a snowbird from Oregon,…

I will be at the Zenith Fly-In to Spring event on June 25. If anyone is interested in my 701 slat jig, I ask for the cost of the wood. My Homebuilt Help videos have been sold.
