Wood Form Blocks

Instead of a photo journal for my build I decided to shoot some videos. I'm starting my project with the form blocks. I have never built with aluminum before so I figured this would be a great place to start. I can't figure out how to post the video instead of the link so here are the links.

Flying vs Texting and Driving

Mike and Mark Patey Flying Texting and driving
It's been a tough couple years for pilots in Utah. We've lost some loved and talented pilots in plane crashes. Ive personally lost my brother in law, (my sisters husband Robert Lamb), and two days ago lost a close personal…

ch 640

I finally ran some fuel through my project.  I am building a ch 640 from scratch.  I am using a subaru engine with an RFI redrive that I built also from scratch.  I bought a set of redrive plans from Don Parnham, and also had him do my computer harness etc.  It finally purrs like a kitten.  I ran it today for about an hour checking cooling, oil temp, redrive belt tracking etc.  It really lights the old building fire again.  Since I am building from scratch it has been horfically slow due to…

The nose job....

As we work ever creatively towards using the Zenith STOL aircraft in practical applications, in the heat of the tropics, we are currently working towards a concept for improved cooling.  It has taken us a long time, but we are close to test flying the 'nose job' on the 701 with a Rotax 912iS up front.

The fun part is the new nose shape and the…

Nose leg bungee on a 601XL

Hi all,

I am hoping to get some advice on changing the nose leg bungee on my CH601XL. I have no experience of building aircraft as I bought the XL when it was already flying.

I have bought the bungee (1080HD) but have been told that it can be a tricky job. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

News From Ghana

For those who have been wondering what is happening in Ghana - well, we have a few challenges!  You can read our latest newsletter in the PDF below...

We are also working on a radiator gantry for the 701/750 for the Rotax 912iS (and the other Rotax installation, but we are working on improved cooling for the iS at the moment) and a really simple cowling modification that goes with it.  We expect to carry out flight tests next week, and, if all goes well, will share…

Leaking Fuel Sender

ROTAX 912 80 HP FOR SALE

Here is a gently used Rotax 912 80 hp for sale.

http://upac.ca/classifieds/ads/rotax-912-ul-80hp/

I know the owner and aircraft history. Its good.

The Rotax 912 80 hp is great engine for the CH701 or CH601HD series aircraft. I have flown both models with the 80 hp Rotax and they fly great.

Slow Down

Wings, rudder and horizontal are done.  Screwed up the elevator (tip rib alignment) probably could have fixed it but would never be happy, scrapped it :>( , got some spare aluminum to use ;>)  Nothing another $400 can't fix.  We learn by doing, I hope.

Rotec 40 TBI replaced Bing, 3300 Jabiru/601XL-B

Recently, We replaced the Bing Carby w/ a Rotec's 40 TBI to my Jabiru 3300.  Here the results: (After 25 hours running)  Still using same throttle system and air box system.

1. Now can reach 2850 rpm in static run-up.

2. Shorter lift off distance.

3. Fuel burn @ cruise 5gph.

4. EGTs closer.  CHTs cooler.

5. Able to control mixture.

6. Very easy Starts.

7. Only use electric fuel pump for first start of day w/ primer once.

601 feed back

Well, after my first 5 hours flying my XL I can report that this is a fantastic aircraft. It flys hands off with minimal trim, I must have been very lucky setting up the rudder alignment as it tracks straight and true with no rudder input. The Jabiru engine has plenty of power and am working out what to set the adjustable prop at. Currently getting 105kts at 2900 RPM. Am getting a lot of wind noise through the canopy frame so will look at sealing that better. With only 5 hrs so far am…

CH-701 Modification to cockpit roof.

I have read that there is a modification to the CH750 that replaces the flat plexiglas between the wing roots with an airfoil shape that is suppose to reduce drag and turbulance, and even increase lift.   Does anyone know if there is such a mod for the 701?

CH300TD

Looking at purchasing a CH300TD with a 140HP Lycoming.  Hangar kept.  Hasn't flown in 2.5 years though.

Struggling to find information/expertise on this model.

Appreciate any suggestions on what I should be looking out for and questions other than the obvious I should be asking. I am not a builder.

Thanks

Looks Like I Will Be Building a CH750

I have 95% decided that the CH750 will be what I am going to build.  I should be ordering plans in the next few days and planning out my tools, etc from there.  I have a set of CH701 plans (had them for  while) and my original idea was to build a 701 with some mods to make it more like a CH750 but I believe the best path forward is to just build a 750.  While I do not need the "extreme STOL" capabilities, I would like to retain good STOL performance in trade for some increase in cruise.  I…
