Anyone have advice on milling the indents for the aluminum gear? I know about not generating too much heat.

Hey guys. I just made my first parts this weekend and have already come to a head scratcher. I have my rudder frame all clecoed together ready to fit skins. My question is, what is the best way to drill the skins? Is it better to drill them before I even test fit them, or put them on and try to find the rib locatons some other way?
I guess I probley look foolish asking this question and being a plans builder but I dont know what to do next. Any help would really help me…

I was a little apprehensive about drilling the elliptical hole for the pick ups through the upper skin in the proper location, to proper size and fit. Here's the method I devised which worked perfectly: (1) cut a 6" x 11" piece of aluminum from the scrap left over from trimming the skins, (2) Cut the elliptical hole in the aluminum to a perfect fit, (3) Trim the aluminum to match the borders of the pick-up plate, (4) sandwich the template in between the pick-up plate and the bulkhead and…

Ghana will be back at Oshkosh this year - and we are camping!
Not only will Patricia Mawuli be back but we hope to also bring the only disabled student pilot in Ghana too, Lydia (she is 16). If you are likely to be at Oshkosh, and particularly camping, and would like to share some stories of building and flying in Ghana, West Africa,…

Even though the 2012 Sebring U.S. Sport Aviation Expo (January 19 -22, 2012) event ended over a week ago, I only just made it back home from the trip this past Friday (and I didn't spend the week on the beach). Following is a brief summary of the trip as well as some commentary on the planes and cross-country flying:…

Because most people I know don't have any idea of what flying is all about esp in the Extreme STOL arena such as the 701. I decieded to install a video camera. I purchased a Drift Stealth 170HD and have been playing around trying to establish the "perfect" position to video the plane's performance. The first position I am gojng to try is from the cockpit mounted on the cross structure just behind, above and to the right of the pilot. This shoud give a good shot of the instrument panel and…

Im years from this part of my build, but I have always wanted to know the pros and cons of different props? Two blade , three blades, wood ,metal carbon fiber. I would like to have more of a STOL prop so what would I look for in a prop?

Warmer temps today permitted me to go out and begin rudder construction. Drilled and clecoed ribs to spar and horn to spar. Now I have to disassemble, debur, apply solvent and rivet. Just ordered solvent from Aircraft Spruce. A very good day!

Cracked open the rudder kit this afternoon for a quick inspection of parts. Will hopefully start building Sunday or Monday. Noticed that there were some pieces listed in the exploded parts breakout on the plans that were not on the packing list...75R2-1, 75R2-2, 75R2-8 and 75R2-9. Thinking I need to call Zenith on Tuesday to make sure these pieces are not supposed to be in the kit.

Hi all, after 6 landings, I found that the rubber pads between the landing gear and fuse, have crushed, to the extend that they snapped, in looking at forums I have found nothing on the subject, when I googled, I found something, they talked about using tyre rubber for new pads, wWould apreciate to know if anyone has had the problem, and a fix for it....
regards Jim.
