Good afternoon every one.

I am an owner of Zenith CH 701. I have been flying for several years. The flaperon I have is the standard Zenith flaperon that came with the kit. I find the floperon deployment system not a user friendly system. Several times I tried to deploy the flap and it took both hands to deploy. As a result, I have stopped using it. I have seen some in the website with actuator and I like those. Does any one know where I can get a modified flap actuator for the CH…

Nose skin clecoed

650B Hinged vs flex hinge ailerons

I would appreciate any comments from pilots who have flown both versions of the hinged ailerons and flex hinged ailerons.

I have flown the flex hinge version and noted that it took real effort to turn (real stiff) compared to my Cherokee 140 which could be turned with essentially finger tip pressure.

One pilot stated the hinged ailerons worked well on the ground but were just as stiff as his prior installed flex hinge in the…

Left wing - bottom skin riveted

Had a little marathon effort last night and got the entire bottom skin riveted.  Remembered to first pop the rivets that sit underneath other objects (eg jury strut brackets), which made it all go smoothly.  Drilled a hole in the tank channel for fuel hose (easier with it out of the structure) and positioned the Savannah fuel tank support before riveting.

Tomorrow I'll ask my wife to assist with flipping the wing.  Then it'll be time for playing around with the tank…

9/12/14 It can FLY!

Friday September 12 2014  The DAR comes over to inspect N69102 for it's airworthiness certificate.

No more then 2 minutes into the inspection he finds a castle nut that has no cotter pin.  DAMN!   I was just working on that this morning and I had the new cotter pin laying right beside the pliers i was going to use to put it in.

I quickly fix that while the DAR goes on about his inspection, spending over an hour looking in holes, going upside down in the cabin to look…

Update on left wing progress

Well this is embarrassing, I just realised I haven't posted an update for almost a year!

Left wing is upside down on the bench.  Had a good day on it today, drilled all the pilot holes out to 1/8", clecoed in the front strut fitting, made the strut angle bracket and attached the fitting doubler, and made a start on the flaperon brackets.

Almost bought a Continental C-85 until someone pointed out a forum post on this site advising against it.  Will wait until a good 912 comes…

EA81

Anybody have any experience with a Real World Solutions efi in an EA81. It acts like it is not getting fuel. I've checked everything and I'm just about to give up.

EAA One Week Wonder on Tour in Central Florida: March 2015

Here's a summary of my three days with the EAA One Week Wonder airplane in central Florida earlier this week.

On Wednesday, we flew by the shortest paved runway (a nice R/C field, just a few hundred feet long) and later that night I had the chance to fly over the longest runway I'd ever seen (NASA's shuttle landing runway at Kennedy Space Center, three miles long!).…

Video of the Rock House Landing in California Desert

Kind of learning how to use a video editor, much harder than building a plane! Here's a link to the video.                                                       Chris Brown STOL 750 Rock House Landing

DIY avionics

The flight instruments (namely the artificial horizon) is now being driven by the MPU board (MPU9250 -> Arduino -> iMac).

Eventually all of this will be put together and run on a PCduino with its own screen.

More work to be done. Fun, but slow.
