This was the ramp in front of the Zenith factory earlier today: two burgundy and gray light aircraft visited today:
The high wing is Mike Schlichtman's STOL CH 750 and the other is Randy Schlitter's
Rans S-19 LSA.
Mike's nice STOL CH 750 is nearly identical to our factory demo version - both are powered by the six cylinder Jabiru 3300…

Today was a day to get closer to the first flight, the new fittings arrived for the oil cooler and were installed back on the airplane, oil and filter were changed, Added the forward bumper buffer for the top cowl by using a small rubber hammer, cut off the handle, and cut a 1/2" piece of plywood in a cirlce just larger than the hammer , screwed the two together and fiberglassed it onto the top of the cowl, when inverted into the normal position the base of the rubber hammer will just rest on…

First I want to start by saying some stuff was missing. One set of seats and wing root fairings. I made my seats and the wing root fairings will be Carbon Fiber, maybe 10 pounds total. From the beginning I concentrated on building light. No wheel pants. Jabiru 3300 with a custom FWF. Grove gear. Wood propeller.
Second, I had Arnie the A&P at U76 use his certified scales.
Empty weight: 686 pounds
Left wheel: 231 pounds
Right wheel: 219 pounds
Nose wheel: 236…

I plan on completing the discrepancy list by Wednesday and then head back to Astoria. Talked to the DAR, Jim Gilchrist, yesterday to verify the timeline once I had submitted the Notarized statement addressing the list. He's out of town until May 1 and will send out the Airworthiness as soon as he receives the paperwork. So, I'll be legal soon thereafter, yahoo!
Last item on the list will be Weight & Balance. I'm going to have the local A&P use his scales. I've tried to build as…

Monday installed the oil dipstick door and did the layup for the box that will hold the wires that lead to the oil pan heater and the battery maintainer, This box will be fiberglassed on the inside of the lower cowl on the right side of the airplane and an access door will be installed also. It appearswe will need to add some rubber gasketing around the base of the cowl for a better fit of the camlocks. Then it is on to finishing the air intakes and baffles to direct the airflow into the intake…

I had 19.8 hrs on it. I talked with the Seattle FSDO and they said because I had not yet completed my 1st 40 hrs, they would not need to add additional testing time. I worked about 20 hrs per week for 4 months, but I did all the work alone. Keep plugging along!

I have completed two test flights, 0.5 hrs and 1.0 hrs, and it flys perfect, um, just like it did before the upgrade. Still adjusting the alerion trim to get it to fly hands off. Off to re-start my ASI calibrations. It's nice to be back in the air again!

Hi Everyone
Natfly 2010 at Temora Australia was a great event.
Natfly is the National Fly-in for Recreational Aircraft of Australia (RA Aus) the body that governs aircraft up to 600 Kg in Australia
The
change of venue went very well and there is a lot more space for everyone.
Zenair Australia had a site with three 601 XLs on
display, they were Peter Franke, Geoff Moore and Allan Barton.
Demo
flights where had by builders and people interested in…

Today is the 11th April 2010 - more than 20 years since that first infectious flight in a C150 at Sywell Aerodrome in the UK. I have flown more than 40 types, over cities, countryside, desert, lakes, sea, mountains, forests, rain forests and low level over more hostile terrain than I care to think about. But today was special.
CH701 9G-ZAF, or Alpha Foxtrot was built for the Medicine on the Move flying doctors and nurses project, and she is beautifully…

We have been testing and our CH750 with the 97hp UL260i. Flight testing is going well and should be done for our trip to Sun n Fun.
Doing our best to keep it light it has minimal interior, EFIS, Comm, and Xpnder, along with the 159 lb UL260i engine. Empty weight came in at 701.5 lbs, on digital scales, weighed twice. The firewall forward kit is currently available for any of the ULPower engines, 97, 107, 118 and 130hp.…
