Online Community of Zenith Builders and Flyers
One of the problems I have run into in the course of this project is being able get an idea of how much
is left for me to do on my plane and what needs to be done next.I have various notes and spreadsheets scattered around, but nothing has ever seemed to really pull everything together for me into a coherent whole.
In my day job as a programmer I use a project management software package called Jira. I have found Jira to be a pretty flexible software package, so I…

Well I made it! I flew C-FPQO from High River AB to Oshkosh. It was 7 legs, just under 1300 miles one way, over 3 days on the way down and 2 days on the way back.

Is the canopy plexiglass?
I fly with a small sharp point hammer.
Can the canopy be shattered if crash landing and tip on back happens?

Fellow Builders,
Thanks so much to everyone that attended the Zenith Builders Banquet during the Oshkosh EAA convention. The event was held at the Elks Lodge in Oshkosh. With 162 Zenith builders attending, this was the largest Zenith banquet to date for the Elks Lodge. Profits from the event go to the many charities that the Elks Lodge support including education and Veterans groups.
And once again the door prizes were outstanding. Patricia Porter was the grand…

I just released a new (free) software application named BuildLog that makes it easy to track time worked while building an experimental aircraft. Please feel free to download it and let me know what you think. I created it for myself to use while building my Zenith CH650 kitplane and am hoping it may be useful to other homebuilders. The web site is http://toddosborne.net/Software.aspx

Hi Everyone!
Its been two weeks since we brought home the massive crate with all the parts we'd need to build up to the firewall forward portion of our plane. As we set up the shop to build we found the crate could be a giant crafting table for construction with the addition of a few sets of wheels and structural supports. So, after inventorying all the parts we turned it into a very mobile work surface.
I have to say I felt a little intimidated as I…

Hi all,
My family and I are moving 31 miles. I need to transport my 601xlb. The fuselage is on the gear. I seem to remember seeing a picture of someone transporting a 601 on a uHaul trailer. Looking at the trailers they have, I conclude that it must have been a wheels up car hauler I saw used. As the main is over 7ft wide, none of the other trailers are wide enought.
Any ideas? Picture would be great.
thanks

CH-601xlb with Viking 130 engine trip to Marion, Iowa (C17)
On 6 July 2018 was able to fly my CH-601 to Marion, Iowa (C17) and back. Got to visit with my younger brother and wife. It was as always a special visit. I’m so lucky to be able do this on a day when his health is good. That is why I enjoy my CH-601 equipped with the Viking 130 engine.
My original engine failed me twice on trying to make this journey.
Have about 91 hours on the Viking 130…

This will be fun. I picked up a 601XL built from 2005 to 2009. It was flown a little over 40 hours and signed off as airworthy. But rather than going into service, it was parked, awaiting "B upgrade kit." A qualified mechanic pulled the wings to start the upgrade and was stunned at what he found. The mounting holes in both the wing spars and center spar were terribly buggered and elongated. Upon further examination, it was found that both wing spars were installed upside down, requiring…

Having completed Phase I, my brother Frank and I flew our Zenith CH 750 STOL to First Flight airport , KFFA, for our first real cross country on Friday, June 8th.
I flew most of the way down, we had a nice visit and Frank flew back. Departing Kitty Hawk ,KFFA, we stopped for gas at Currituck, KONX. We then departed Currituck for the 95 minute flight home. Minutes into that flight, my door…

I finally drill out the holes to final size for attaching the main and center spars together.
The video below describes the process I went through. Hopefully other scratch builders
will find a few useful tidbits of information when they get to a similar point.

As purchased, the main landing gear was reversed to put the gear 4 inches forward (see photos) to help the builder better hold off the nose gear when landing. I plan to put it back to its intended (correct) position. The engine is an O-235.
What is the best method to support the airframe when removing the main gear and reattaching it?
I plan to support the wings under a rib on each side using sailplane wing supports and the fuselage under the width of a bulkhead with the nose…
