Panel Hacksaw

A panel hacksaw is a special type of saw for making long cuts in pieces of sheet metal. By using a piece of spring steel sheet to support the blade allows the saw to make unrestricted cuts.

A demonstration is made of trimming down a wing skin.

Another failed nose-gear bungee on my 701

Funny thing – the original bungee on my 701 lasted for years. But with about 5 years and 200 hours on the aircraft, I was persuaded to replace it. So, I ordered one from Zenith, also the bungee replacement tool which helped - only to find the bungee was too big for my plane. It was really loose and with the gear off the ground, I could push the bungee off the pegs on the nose gear leg.

A quick call to Zenith, and Roger kindly digs up a smaller one and sends it to me. It fits…

Trust your engine

First time poster, had a long road to airworthiness. Just wanted to let those of you with corvair engines know that the engine is very very hearty. This picture is from the first flight after I purchased the aircraft. The 2700 CC engine was overheated to the point where it melted the heads and gaskets. It landed pouring oil and smoking like a chimney. Running way too lean. It landed running though. Even with what is shown, the engine was chugging along. Now I have solved the issue, rebuilt…

need wing fold conversion

Hey fellow Zenith builders: I am selling my CH701 and a potential buyer from out of state needs the plane modified to the wing fold option.  I do not have the facilities nor time any more to accomplish the work.  Would appreciate any info on where I can get this job done, preferably close to Oklahoma.  Don Herbel, Collinsville, Okla.

Dual throttle Rotax 912ULS

I have a dual throttle setup on my 701 with a Rotax 912ULS This is the kit that zenith provides with two cables. There seems to be a lot of pressure pulling the two throttle arms on the carbs back to full. If I take my hand off the throttle it will advance the RPM greatly. I have to tighten the throttle lock down very hard to stop this action. Rotax says not to change the carb springs. I took the springs off to see if it was a cable issue , but no problem with the cables. I did reattach the…

N601LT For Sale in Florida _ Sun&Fun

Zenith 601XLB 2850cc Corviar powered Michigan to Florida in one day.

March 26, 2019 I flew from Michigan to Venice Florida KVNC and parked on the

ramp by Suncoast Air Center. Had good weather and tail winds till I got

in Florida, average speed 117mph or 102kts, not bad for a 601XLB. Stop by

and take a look, I’m trying to find it a new home.

I stopped off at Cook County and said hi…

Flap tube friction between fuselage.

How much friction / how free should the main flap control tube be on a 750 when fitted I don’t want to rivet it just in case. I can turn it by hand without much effort but is not free like in a normal baring. thanks

EAA Amateur Built Certification Kit

For anyone just starting out or almost finished, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the EAA's Amateur Built Certification Kit. It has all the forms, all the steps and all the right language to make getting your paperwork done correctly very easy. It also has good recommendations on the timing to send the various forms in. SUPER helpful!
