Variable pitch prop on a ch601 hds

Has anybody put a variable pitch prop on a ch601 hds, I am thinking of a Woodcomp SR3000, but I would like to know if anybody has already done it. What improvements were there ? How did it effect the C of G, anybody in the UK done it and passed it with the LAA. Any help appreciated.

Stepping in

Hello all,

So plans should arrive this week for a STOL 750. My son and I have made a family pact to build this aircraft over the next 5 or 6 years while he goes through air cadets. The finished craft will be his reward for getting his PPL.

We are both very excited to scratch build and kit build as the finances allow. I'm a shipwright and a journeyman carpenter with a lifetime experience in fabrication in composites, metals and wood. I'm hoping that some skills will benefit an…

New Builders

Just ordered a 750 SD kit.  Delivery May-June 23.  We have received the tail section to get started.  Looking for ideas on building a shop table, size, material, leveling, etc.  Any guidance you can give will be appreciated.  We are a father(Jimmy)/son(Ben) team with no building experience, however, Ben is an A&P and a former IA.  Looking forward to getting started.

Windshield Gap

I just purchase a Zenith CH 750 STOL and most everything the builder did was first class, except the gap at the corners of the windshield.  Is there a fitted seal available for this area?  See the attached photo.

Rudder complete and observations from the Zenith Homecoming

Part 1 of my Cruzer is complete:

Rudder Workshop

The kit and the instructions were straightforward.  However, there are two things to note if you are looking to build one of these.  If you live on the coast like me and want to use the Cortec corrosion inhibitor, it…

Notes on the instrument panel layout

I decided to create a mockup of the instrument panel.  I ended up needing to order the optional drawings to fabricate the center console mockup.  I would recommend getting these when you order the base plans as there are a few things in the optional plans that aren't quite so optional.

I set up the mockup with a center-mounted tiller control…

FAA medical

FAA Medical

This is my story:

Five years ago I had the Mitro valve in my heart repaired (not replaced, repaired).

According to the FAA regulation this is not an issue that would exclude you from receiving a third class medical clearance BUT.

This is the series of events that have taken place that I have had to deal with!

26 months ago I started flight school, and filled out the required forms for a third class medical. I…

Leading Edge Skin for Left Wing Drilled

I finally managed to get the leadig edge skin drilled for my Zenith 650. I would say this is the most difficult challenge I have faced in this project so far.

I think the biggest feature of what was done was to figure out a way to hold the ribs steady so I can take measurements to transfer from the ribs to skin and also make sure the ribs do not move when trying to fit the skin and for drilling as well.  Some of this can be seen in the thumbnail for the video below.  The jig will…

Bob Is Back Flying

After a "heart incident" Dec. 2019 I received two stents and in Feb. 2020 my Aortic valve was replaced (to correct a birth defect) at the Ottawa Heart Institute. My Private Pilot Medical was suspended. I resigned myself to not being able to fly again. Feb. 2021 I felt so good I that I passed my pilot medical which Transport Canada placed "Under Review" because of the replacement surgery. Yesterday I received my medical "Unrestricted Class 3" from Transport Canada. It was a long tedious trip…

Bungee "Installation Tool"

To change the front bungee CH601HD, CH701, CH750 or and Zenith with bungee cord front suspension. Simply hook bungee around the rear mount tube, slide up the nose strut, then slide loose end of bungee over the end of a 1/2 inch drive ratchet handle which has the 1/2 inch drive inserted in the open end of the front bungee mount tube. Lifting up on the ratchet handle will stretch the bungee easy. Once over center the bungee slides down the ratchet handle onto the front bungee mount tube. KISS…
