Nose Gear

Thinking of extending nose strut by about 2 inches for clearance in case of off road bungee failure.  I've got large mains and standard nose wheel.  Anyone else?  Input appreciated.  Cheers,,, Lynn

Wiring the Cruzer

So while I await an answer from Zenith on my "elevator issue", I have moved on to other areas in the project. Can someone that has been before me help me with this. I am wiring the panel using the Composite Design Mini panel. Everything from the primary bus, and the avionics bus has been pretty simple. 18AWG does the trick for all these low draw items. I need help with the gauge wire needed for the other items. Master switch to battery relay, alternator switch to control, and back to the…

Milestone: Viking Engine Startup

Milestone:  1st Viking 110 Startup at 9:45 AM, Saturday, July 30th ... Fixed plumbing problem then after about 5 or 6 sec. of cranking and one loud backfire, smooth and quiet purring ... Most impressed ... Ran about 20-30 sec. (without prop) with EIS values good and shutdown normally.  I'll be mounting the WarpDrive prop wit pitch 12 deg. (?) later this week for a real startup.

Zenith aircraft at Air Venture and Jon's Fly-In on Saturday before the show

First, if you missed Sebastien and Roger's news presentation, here it is again.  Very nice video.

My airplane will be at a display next to Zenith as always.  I made some personal changes with my friend Vern to the airplane.  Come have a look.  Right now it is being wired for some new fuel pumps.…

Six Years In

Today is the 6 year anniversary of opening up the rudder box in my living room and drilling the first hole. Even though I only get to work on weekends, and on weekends outside of the summer when it isn't 110+, I had kinda thought I'd be done by now. But if I've learned one thing on this project is to take all estimates and double them: and expect it to take longer than that.

While we are firmly in the 110s, I have managed to sneak some early mornings in this summer in an…

Nose Gear Bottom Bearing Fabrication

I completed most of the fabrication of the nose gear bottom bearing. This was a fun little machining project.

It gave me a chance to make use of the boring head for machining the hole for the nose gear leg and the sine vise for accurately cutting the angles.

Almost finished result. I still need to split the bearing and drill the various holes,…

The 2016 West Coast Zenith Fly In Report

The inaugural year of the West Coast Zenith Fly - In is now in the books, and it was a success.

This event was held in Arlington, WA during the annual (and great) Arlington Fly In.

Despite very threatening weather, we had seven zeniths show.

A 750, a 601, an 801, and four 701s. Two of the planes were from California!

We also had about a dozen active builders join us, which may be the most rewarding part of any fly in. Ideas and tips…

Current status

I decided to change the WW front starter, flywheel, John Deere alternator, and harmonic balance for rear mounted stuff to not have interference with my plenum ducting and to fit a new cowling.  So I will have the above stuff for sale. Also a SPA metal cowling with carb heat. New, never mounted and very nice.

Bubble Doors

I am replacing my first generation bubble doors with tube supports on my 701 with second generation bubble doors with fiberglass support for the acrylic .  Does anyone out there have any experience with this?  Will I have to alter the sill height?  Will the hardware transfer to the new door?

Thanks, Vann
