Hello every one,
I have this type of cowling http://www.zenith.aero/photo/dry-fit-cowling-8 and going to be installed to CH750 airframe, for Rotax 912S. The question is dose the engine need in let openings for air cooling from the front of the cowling puting in consideration the high temp. in Saudi where it reaches 47c in summer time.?
Thank you all members for sharing experience …

After pulling my air riveter to bits and removing the 6 jammed rivet pins stuck in it, I riveted most of the skeleton together. Didn't rivet the hinge pins, thought it might be easier to remove them to drill the holes for the split pins...
On to the rear skins next - can't wait.

A good evening in the shed tonight!
I'd been having difficulty sourcing a suitable piano hinge for the trim tab. While the Zenith one is entirely reasonable at about $21, it would have cost $108 for postage to Australia.
Finally tracked one down locally today - it's stainless steel instead of aluminium, but because of the thickness (about 0.025") it's light enough for the purpose. I intend to well and truly coat it with an anti-corrosive paint to avoid any corrosion…

Talking to a co-worker about the build project today I had to look up when I started and according to my blog I picked up my first rudder piece a year ago this week.
I only get to build on weekends so I'm not sure if I am doing well or not (or even if I should care, just enjoy the ride) but I've spent roughly 80 hrs and have completed the rudder, the slats, the flaperons and the stabiliser; elevator is on the bench waiting to be deburred, and wings kit is in its crate at my…

HI. I will be going to OshKosh on Wed the 27th or Thurs. the 28th. We will be taking a motorhome and have room for one more person. You will have your own bed, and we have a quiet generator for A/C. A little about us. We are in our early 30s and like to drink beer and let a couple swear words out here and there. We are not all night party people just like to have fun. We camp as close to the ultralight strip as we can. You should be ok with swearing and drinking and have a good sense…

So the start will be now :)
I have ordered the wings kit and the rudder start kit so it will be delivered in 1,5 month. The workshop are prepared and the tools are on place so it will be alot of fun to start now.

Finally got a chance to see my local sheet metal bloke, so got him to bend some pieces - the elevator spar, trim tab spar, and the trim tab itself. He did a superb job on the trim tab - bent it up from one piece of 0.016" with 3 bends. Note that the trim tab assembly on this 701 is based on the 750 style - full port elevator span, inset into the trailing edge. (I believe the 701 tab is a flat plate hinged to the existing soft-riveted TE - correct me if I'm wrong!) Anyway, as I've said on…

I've been looking at the Aircraft Spruce catalog and trying to figure out what parts I need for fastening my cowling closed. I've been looking mostly at DZUS fasteners. I'm finding it hard to figure what parts are needed from the catalog and or website. There especially seems to be missing information when looking at the flush type DZUS fasteners regarding required parts and sizes.
Does anyone have some suggestions on what to use. I've done flush rivetting throughout the…

When I ordered my slats/flaps and tail kit, I ordered it online, paid the deposit and sat back waiting for it to be shipped. The "confirmed" shipping date came and went so I called and was told they waiting for final payment which I thought was odd since they already had my credit card. And also how was I to know they were waiting for me to pay?
This time when I ordered the wings I made a note in the comments box online to please take final payment when ready (this was a…

Last evening I had an amazing flight in my CH-701. In the 1980s the provincial government had a program of applying herbicide to recently replanted conifer forests so that the young trees would not have to compete with faster growing native deciduous vegitation. The side effect of this program was the creation of gravel runways in remote locations throughout the region. Having found one of these abandoned strips more than…

OK, its hot here in SC, so wen;t flying with no doors. The breeze felt good and the plane handled well. the only adverse condition was a little wind noise being picked up by the head set mike. Now for the rest of the story, we, ( Robert my partner) and I were not planning this. It started because we were not happy with the 68" GSC wood prop in use. Although the tracking was spot on there was always a small vibration we did not like. So we ordered a new 71.5 " Kiev prop and installed. After…

Here is my new Wagner HVLP Paint Spayer System. Great Spray Gun - can be used with all kinds of paint such as Waterborne Epoxy Primers, and Waterborne Polyurethane etc. There are some pretty expensive systems out there... but this was to good to pass up! Paid $75US from Gleam Paints. Runs off of 110V and feather light. Princess Auto had one for $130 from China and it just could not compare to the Wagner. I had a Wagner electric spray gun back in the 80's and it was one super…
