Video Link of a flight in the California Desert with a STOL 750

Flew with a 17 year old that I helped get his pilot license.  He has about 70 plus hours now and let him fly the 750.  He did extremely well with his first dirt road landing and take off from a soft field.  I think he did an excellent job on the video with music and the video editing. Enjoy!!!

Wing Spar Photos

Could someone post front and rear views of their completed wing spars? I am particularly interested in close-ups where the Spar Web Doubler and Spar Root Doubler are mounted. Thanks in advance.

Spars done

spars.jpgI finished up my wing spars tonight, all in all it was an easy build.  My transmission went out on the Explorer and is gonna cost 1500.00 bucks to fix........ So that will delay my next and last aluminum order for a few months.  Time to make wing ribs and tidbits.

Getting READY FOR FUSELAGE BUILD

I'm building a CH 750 on Zenith 1450A amphibious floats.  Completed so far are everything except the fuselage and fuselage-related components. (Why I built the floats before completing the plane is another story for another time....) At Oshkosh this summer…

Less Goldner on a 3,300 mile Viking CH-701 Flight with friends

Less Goldner on a 3,300 mile Viking CH-701 Flight with friends

My 55 hour, 3300 mile flight in my Viking HF110 powered Zenith CH701 STOL plane last month.

To summarize, three of us followed rivers and river canyons from the San Francisco area to Yellowstone NP, Canyonlands NP, and the Grand Canyon. We flew between from 50’ AGL to 11,000 feet altitudes, mostly in river canyons, camped out, and had a great time. The Viking engine performed very well during the entire…

First flight

I had been waiting for the wind to go down for two weeks. I finally had an evening where I felt it was low enough to do the test ride. It flew out with plenty of climb. It ran a little too cool and the left wing felt a little heavy. The trim worked. I got up to 120KTS while in the pattern, so I slowed it down and did some pattern work after I got higher.
I nailed the landing. She is a good flier.

Attended October Rudder builder workshop

Took the plunge and went to the October Rudder builder workshop in Mexico Missouri. We had a great time and learned way more than I thought we would. Zenith really puts on an excellent program to get new builders started and comfortable with building and headed in the right direction. I can't recommend it enough if anybody hasn't been. We bought the Cruzer plans while we were down there and brought them home along with our completed rudder. Now just in the process of getting the workshop…

Spar Root Doubler Mounting

Yesterday, I shifted attention to one end of the spar. I drilled out and temporarily mounted the spar root doubler assembly that I had made some time back but had put aside.

Acquired wing kit

Picked up my wing kit about 3 weeks ago, and just finishing up the elevator and trip tab. I have a new work schedule that should help accelerate the construction. I will post pictures soon of the tail feathers.

Cruzer Kit

My fuselage kit arrived today so let the snow fly. I'll stay warm and busy this winter.

I Got the Big Box with a Zenith 750 CurZer in it

I got a very big Wooden Box with a 750 CurZer in it last week. Got it unpacked and got the parts all over my storage shed and my small shop. I'm ready to start and now I can't remember where I put all the various parts. Time to start construction, but first I have to find parts. The fun begins Jim Peale

Spar Drilling

Yesterday, I finished drilling the remaining spar pilot holes and then followed up by drilling out to #21. I will put an angle on the Spar Web Doubler when I go to our chapter meeting next Saturday (my bending brake cannot handle .063" metal). Will pre-mount it later in the day.

Time to dig into spars

It's been a busy summer with kids sports, boating and working.  The boats are put away and the time has come to start drilling some holes.  I'm getting ready to start my spars and I have to admit that I'm not looking forward to these, don't know why, just dreading them.  My building buddy Timothy has his done already, so I will be leaning on him for much needed motivation.  Some times,...... ok most of the time I wish I had a pile of money to buy a kit but that's not going to happen. Well,…

More Spar Work

This afternoon, I re-cut the spar web doublers for both wing spars and then drilled pilot holes along one side of one spar. Time and light did not permit me to finish the other side. I still need to mark rivet points for the ribs, L-angles, and the spar web doublers.

Installing the Top Cabin Window on CH750

IMG_5115_50R.jpg

I have just finished the installation of my windshield and top window on my CH750 project.   The version of canopy frame that I have - has a diagonal tube across the top of the frame, running from the front left to the rear right position.   Per the drawings and picture guides, I added the two channels to the diagonal to make a slight upwards bulge, ie to make…

Final Push to Finish

I am in the final push to finishing.  I've procrastinated way too long through the hot summer.  The only airframe parts left to fabricate are the main wing root covers that will be done once the plane is reassembled at the airport.  I am looking forward to an engine start here at home, testing the radios and getting past the trailer trip to the airport.  Paint will have to wait until post Phase I and will probably be done by another owner.  I don't fly anymore since a 5-way bypass.  An…

Rudder CH 750

Well it took a few weeks to get the garage (shop) ready. But I was finally able to complete my Zenith CH750 rudder.

A Little More Rudder Work

Managed a few hours this weekend to work on the rudder. Completed the skeleton and started fitting the leading and trailing edge skins. Yeah, I know I went overboard with the Cleco's, but nothing moved!
